Livecoding
[Hydra]
To know code, is to slow code
These are some screenshots and videos from performances I did personally and with the TOPLAP (Temporal Organisation for the Proliferation of Live AudioVisual Programming) community.
In the practice of livecoding, the visuals are made out of coding and the writing of the code is projected for the audience, making the creative process visible and reflecting the principles of the open-source philosophy.
When I do livecoding I adhere as principles and values to the TOPLAP manifesto cited below.
We demand: give us access to performer’s mind, to the whole human instrument. ▪︎ Obscurantism is dangerous. Show us your screens. ▪︎ Programs are instruments that can change themselves. ▪︎ The program is to be be transcended — Artificial language is the way. ▪︎ Code should be seen as well as heard, underlying algorithms viewed as well as their visual outcome. ▪︎ Live coding is not about tools. Algorithms are thoughts. Chainsaws are tools. That’s why algorithms are sometimes harder to notice than chainsaws.
This code has been part of the exibithion "Live coding with Toplap Barcelona - A space for concerts, talks and collective experimentation" at Centre Santa Monica (Barcelona) during November 2024
